Main Hand

Xsaadh Dhuth - Rolling Surf now empowers your and your Zephyrs' primary attacks to slash with swords while giving temporary immunity to total loss of control and knockback.

Note: The Xsaadh Dhuth essence also makes Rolling Surf retain its increased movement speed. The Skein-Parter essence was previously used but it was heavily nerfed which lowered the Rolling Surf skill's increased movement speed.

Off-Hand

Hurricane Hitch - Crosswinds now empowers you and your Zephyrs' primary attacks to unleash wind blades.

Main Hand 2

Tidebreaker - Riptide now also increases your damage for each enemy hit stacking up to three times.​

Maarozhi Spine - The damage of your Zephyrs is increased.

Helmet

Sense and Lethality - Rolling Surf now also causes enemies to Bleed over three seconds

Chest

Hanalaguu's Armada - Riptide now surrounds you and your Zephyrs with swirling tides that damage nearby enemies.

Note: This chest armor essence is the main reason that this build is so strong for AoE damage encounters.

Shoulders

United Defiance (PvM) - Flowing Strike now also conjures an additional Zephyr.

Mandate of Ksathra (PvP) - Breaker now also gives an absorb shield and makes you immune to one loss of control effect.

Note: This Riptide Tempest build is not meant for PvP fights but PvP options for essences are still mentioned.

Legs

Bloodscent (PvM) - Crosswinds now also deals additional damage to Bleeding enemies.​

Flaring Lighthouse (PvP) - Breaker now dashes forward dealing damage, conjures a Zephyr, and gives an absorb shield.​​​

Recommended Sets

1. Vithu's Urges (2-4 Set) - Increases the duration of your beneficial effects by 30% and gives an attack speed increase.

2. Grace of the Flagellant (4 Set) - Deals additional damage after damaging each enemy five times.

3. Untouchable Mountebank (PvP 2 Set) - Gives a chance to gain an absorb shield which is great for PvP.​​​​​

Note: It's important to have reduced skill cooldown on your amulet and both of your rings for more skill uptime.

Best 5 Star Legendary Gems

1. Roiling Consequence - Greatly increases your critical hit chance and causes critical hits to burn enemies.

2. Leviathan Tomb - Increases your damage for a duration and makes critical hits increase its damage bonus.

3. Colossus Engine - Gives increased skill damage, increased area of effect for Crosswinds, temporary knockback immunity, and increased size which increases your movement speed for a medium duration on cooldown.

4. Blood Floe - Low priority five star gem that increases damage, critical hit chance, critical hit damage, and causes bleed.

5. Fated Trail - Deals damage over time as a percentage of your life, shatters enemies' armor, and immobilizes enemies.

6. Hellbound Desire - Increases damage and movement speed with bonus damage for a six second duration.

7. Gloom Cask (PvM) - Deals damage when you use a primary attack and increases your primary attack damage.

8. Seeping Bile (PvP) - Deals high damage over time which is great for killing opponents after they use a cheat death.

9. Void Spark (PvM) - Deals massive AoE damage that's effective for challenge dungeons, terror rifts, and speed farming.

10. ​Frozen Heart (PvP) - A strong legendary gem for PvP that gives an absorb shield and it chills opponents.

Best 2 Star Legendary Gems

1. Pain Clasp - Gives high increased damage against enemies that have a continuous damage effect on them.

2. Mother's Lament - Increases your critical hit chance and fires a blood spike that makes the enemy bleed.

3. Specter Glass - Increases the damage taken by enemies after critical hits and increases your critical hit chance.

4. Fervent Fang - Gives enemies a stacking damage taken increase when you hit them stacking up to ten times.​

5. Mourneskull - This legacy gem can be used to increase your damage and deals its own damage but it no longer drops.

6. Viper's Bite - A nice gem for early on that deals high damage over time which is great at low resonance levels.

7. Igneous Scorn - Can be used with Roiling Consequence and Mother's Lament to deal damage on critical hits. Igneous Scorn is the lowest priority two star gem and should be the first to be replaced with a ranked up five star gem.

8. Crimson Behelit - Strong legacy gem with increased damage and reduced damage taken that's drop disabled.

Note: Pain Clasp and Mother's Lament are the best two star gems for damage and Crimson Behelit is the best for PvP.

Best 1 Star Starter Legendary Gems

1. Berserker's Eye - Increases all of your damage and critical hit chance but also increases your damage taken.

2. Blessed Pebble - This budget gem increases your beneficial effects durations and increases your movement speed.

3. Entropic Well - A great one star legendary gem that increases your skill damage and increases your attack speed.

4. Everlasting Torment - A strong budget gem that deals damage over time on critical hits and increases your attack speed.

5. Ca'arsen's Invigoration - A lower priority one star legendary gem that increases your primary attack speed.

6. Surging Sea - A lower priority one star gem that gives a stacking skill damage increase that stacks up to 10 times.

7. Faltergrasp (PvP) - Disables opponents' dash skills on critical strikes and greatly reduces their movement speed.

Note: Berserker's Eye is a strong one star legendary gem that requires a high ranked up 5 star gem to match its damage.

Best Familiars

1. Savior Duskprowler - Look for a 170+ Resilience Duskprowler with the Savior passive skill which provides a cheat death and temporary damage immunity. The 170+ Resilience on the familiar lowers the cooldown of Savior. The Tenacity passive is great because it lowers the Duskprowler's shield cooldown. Lingering Wounds increases your damage but it only works on a Duskprowler if you also have the Ignition passive which gives a chance to burn enemies over time.

2. Broodtalon/Skitterwight - Look for Savior which provides a cheat death and Lingering Wounds for increased damage.

3. Ash Sweeper - Ash Sweepers are strong, especially in PvP, because they damage nearby enemies and mark an enemy reducing their damage by 20% for 3 seconds. They can also have 170+ Resilience which reduces the cooldown of Savior.

4. Any Savior Familiar - You can use any familiar with Savior for a cheat death and great passive skills as an alternative.

5. Rare Duskprowler - Guardian is the next best familiar passive because it heals you when you drop below 50% life. Innervate can reset one of the player's cooldowns, Phalanx increases your damage and defenses, Precision gives critical hit chance to the familiar, and Tenacity lowers the cooldown of the Duskprowler shield which are also desirable passives.

Note: Broodtalons and Skitterwights have status effects over a duration which increases the duration of Lingering Wounds.

Normal Gems

Prioritize Tourmalines for added damage in red sockets and use a combination of Citrines and Topazes for potency and resistances in yellow sockets for the highest refinement. Potency increases harmful effects durations on enemies and resistances decrease harmful effects durations on you. Citrines for potency is preferred if you only care about PvM damage but resistances come into play more with PvP fights. You should also use your highest refinement Aquamarines and Sapphires which give increased armor and armor penetration in blue sockets. You can optionally combine all of your bound Rubies which give life into one or two Rubies and socket them into your equipment if they give more refinement. Gems give refinement based on their quality and refinement increases the attributes on the equipment the gems are socketed in.

Gem Notes

The Fated Trail five star gem is a solid legendary gem once you have high life from Vitality and resonance but, the fairly new Leviathan's Tomb five star gem deals more damage than Fated Trail on nearly every build. The Blood Floe five star gem is a great option when it's combined with multiple sources of critical hit chance and critical hit damage. The Colossus Engine legendary gem is excellent for this build because it increases the area of effect of your Crosswinds, increases your skill damage, gives temporary knockback immunity, and increases your movement speed from its size increase. When using increased critical hit chance legendary gems you should also consider rolling increased critical hit damage on every available piece of equipment with Reforge Stones for more damage. You should also roll increased beneficial duration on your equipment on Tempest until you have 100% skill uptime for your skills. One of your lowest priority legendary gems should also be switched to a Frozen Heart for PvP once it's rank four or higher for an absorb shield and it chills opponents.​
