PvP Punish Tank Crusader Guide

The PvP Punish Tank Crusader is an off meta PvP build that is used to provide a tank role. It's great for tanking and damage in Shadow Wars and Alley of Blood but, if you wish to view the meta PvP build you can check out the Sweep Attack Crusader in the menu. This build uses Punish, Condemn, Shield Charge, and Judgment and it gives better defenses and single target damage than the meta PvP Sweep Attack Crusader but it has less mobility. Punish is used to give a 49% block chance, it stuns opponents after blocks, and it deals great single target damage. Condemn gives a condensed lightning storm that damages enemies around you, Shield Charge gives a dash attack with two charges that reduces your damage taken by 25% or 35% if you pass through an ally, Judgment causes fire to rain down damage around you, and Conjuration of Light gives full damage immunity for a medium duration on cooldown. Your damage over time effects will also be instantly triggered with the Torrential Refrain off hand essence. This allows you to instantly trigger your damage over time effects instead of just repeatedly refreshing their durations each time you hit opponents.

Paragons & Legendary Skills: PvP Punish Tank Crusader Build

1. Slayer is the highest damage paragon because it increases the damage of your primary skills and continual damage.

2. Gladiator is the best PvP paragon tree for this build because it gives a cheat death and it helps with loss of control.

3. Vanquisher is the best paragon tree for magic find and it can give increased damage and attack speed on kills.

4. Harbinger can be used in Erebban for an absorb shield, movement speed, and to move unhindered through enemies.

5. Survivor is recommended in Vanguard if you have a low charm because it has a cheat death that works in Vanguard.

6. The best legendary skill for this build is Overloaded because it increases your primary attack speed on cooldown.

Main Hand

Soul Purge - Punish also shatters enemies' armor which increases their damage taken stacking up to three times.

Off-Hand

Torrential Refrain - Condemn now instantly triggers all continual damage on the target it hits. This causes damage over time effects to trigger their full duration instead of just refreshing their duration when you hit enemies.

Main Hand 2

Defiler's Repose - Punish now also stuns opponents for 3.6 seconds after blocking an attack with a 6 second cooldown.

Off-Hand 2

Heart of Conviction - Punish now also increases Hardened Senses block chance to 49%.

Note: Hardened Senses is the increased block buff that you receive from the Punish primary attack.

Helmet

Ammonis Cornua - Shield Charge now also increases your damage for a short duration.

Chest

Heart of Grandeur - Condemn now creates a condensed lightning storm that follows you and damages nearby enemies.

Shoulders

The Yawning Rose - Judgment now calls bolts of fire that rain down in a large area around you.

Legs

Journey of the Faithful - Shield Charge now becomes a dash attack with two charges that significantly reduces your damage taken. Additionally, allies in the path of the dash give them the reduced damage taken as well.

Recommended Attribute Priority (PvP)

1. Willpower (Potency/Resistances)

2. Fortitude (Armor/Armor Penetration)

3. Vitality (Maximum Life)

4. Strength (Primary/Skill Damage)

Note: Potency from Willpower increases the duration of damage over time effects which are instantly triggered on this build.

Recommended Sets

1. Angmet's Conflagration (4 Set) - Deals damage over time which is instantly triggered with the Torrential Refrain essence.

2. Vithu's Urges (2 Set) - Increases the duration of your beneficial effects by 30%.

3. Feasting Baron's Pack (2 Set) - Extends the duration of your harmful effects by 30% (which are instantly triggered).

Note: Look for yellow sockets on both of your rings and socket them with Citrines for more potency.

Recommended Skill Enchants

1. Judgment skill enchants chain enemies that are suffering negative effects and stuns them when they break free.

2. Shield Charge skill enchants reduce the cooldown of Shield Charge for every yard traveled.

3. Conjuration of Light skill enchants increase your movement speed during Conjuration of Light.

4. Condemn skill enchants make Condemn deal increased critical hit damage to enemies below 30% life.

Best 5 Star Legendary Gems

1. Roiling Consequence - Increases your critical hit chance and causes critical hits to burn enemies.

2. Blood-Soaked Jade - Increases your damage, reduces damage taken below 50% life, and increases movement speed.

3. Hellbound Desire - Increases damage and movement speed and has bonus damage for six seconds.

4. Haunt Coil - Useful in offensive and defensive stance to increase damage or reduce damage taken for a duration.

5. Colossus Engine - Gives increased skill damage, increased area of effect, temporary knockback immunity, and increased movement speed (from its size increase) for a medium duration with a 20 second cooldown.

6. Blood Floe - Increases damage, critical hit chance, critical hit damage, and causes bleed (which is instantly triggered).

7. Leviathan Tomb - Increases your damage for a duration and makes critical hits increase its damage bonus.

8. Frozen Heart - Gives an absorb shield and it chills enemies which lowers their attack and movement speed.

Note: The Crusader defensive stance is strong and it's recommended for this PvP tank build with the Haunt Coil gem.

Best 2 Star Legendary Gems

1. Crimson Behelit - Strong PvP legacy gem with increased damage and reduced damage taken that's drop disabled.

2. Pain Clasp - Gives high increased damage against enemies that have a continuous damage effect on them.

3. Mother's Lament - Increases your critical hit chance and fires a damaging spike at enemies that makes them bleed.

4. Specter Glass - Increases the damage taken by enemies after critical hits and increases your critical hit chance.

5. War Herald - This PvP gem increases your damage and gives an absorb shield after you lose a total of 100% life.

6. Battleguard - Greatly reduces your damage taken against enemies within three yards.

7. Stubborn Oracle - Gives a chance to block enemies in front of you and reduces the duration of loss of control.

8. Viper's Bite - A nice gem for early on that deals damage over time and it can kill opponents after their cheat deaths.

Note: The Pain Clasp two star gem is triggered with the Heart of Grandeur chest essence. Pain Clasp, Crimson Behelit, Stubborn Oracle, and Mother's Lament are the top four two star gems for this PvP build and they should be replaced last.

Best 1 Star Legendary Gems

1. Misery Elixir - Excellent one star gem for this build to increase damage over time durations which are triggered instantly.

2. Berserker's Eye - Increases all of your damage and critical hit chance but also increases your damage taken.

3. Entropic Well - A great budget one star legendary gem that increases your skill damage and attack speed.

4. Ca'arsen's Invigoration - A great starter one star legendary gem that increases your primary attack speed and damage.

5. Surging Sea - A low priority one star gem that has a stacking skill damage increase that stacks up to 10 times.

6. Respite Stone (PvP) - This defensive one star gem reduces damage taken and increases your block chance.

7. Faltergrasp (PvP) - Disables opponents' dash skills on critical strikes and greatly reduces their movement speed.

Note: Misery Elixir is strong on this build because it increases the duration of damage over time which is instantly triggered.

Best Familiars

1. Savior Duskprowler - Look for a 170+ Resilience Duskprowler with the Savior passive which provides a cheat death and temporary damage immunity. The 170+ Resilience on the familiar can lower the cooldown of Savior but only Duskprowlers and Ash Sweepers can have 170+ Resilience. The Tenacity passive is strong for lowering the cooldown of the Duskprowler shield, the Guardian passive is great for a heal, and Steel Hide is great on tank builds for increased block chance.

2. Broodtalon/Skitterwight - Look for Savior which provides a cheat death and Lingering Wounds for increased damage.

3. Ash Sweeper - Ash Sweepers are strong, especially in PvP, because they damage nearby enemies and mark an enemy reducing their damage by 20% for 3 seconds. They can also have 170+ Resilience to reduce the cooldown of Savior.

4. Any Savior Familiar - You can use any familiar with Savior for a cheat death and great passive skills as an alternative.

5. Rare Duskprowler - Guardian is the next best familiar passive because it provides a heal when you drop below 50% life. Phalanx increases your damage and defenses, Steel Hide occasionally gives a chance to block, Precision gives critical hit chance to the familiar, and Tenacity lowers the cooldown of the Duskprowler shield which are all also desirable.

Note: Broodtalons and Skitterwights have status effects over a duration which increases the duration of Lingering Wounds.

Normal Gems

Prioritize Tourmalines for added DoT damage in red sockets and Citrines for potency to increase harmful effects durations in yellow sockets which are both very important for this build. The full duration of your damage over time will be instantly triggered on this build so potency is a huge damage increase. You can also combine all of your bound Rubies which give life and use them in red sockets if they give higher refinement. Refinement is determined by the quality of the normal gems and refinement increases the attributes on the gear the normal gems are socketed in. You should also socket your highest refinement Aquamarines and Sapphires which give increased armor and armor penetration in blue sockets.

Gem Notes

The Haunt Coil five star gem is great on this tank build when you switch stances because it gives an absorb shield, more damage, and damage reduction. The Leviathan's Tomb five star gem deals more damage than Fated Trail on almost every build. The Blood Floe five star gem is a great option when it's combined with multiple sources of critical hit chance and critical hit damage and its bleed damage is instantly triggered on this build. When using multiple critical hit chance legendary gems you should also consider rolling increased critical hit damage on your equipment using Reforge Stones for more damage. The Frozen Heart five star gem is recommended for PvP for an absorb shield and it chills your opponents.
